Informe Actividades año 2007
April 2007 : Research Director visit to the NLCIFT.
In April, three Latin American legal scholars came to the National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade (NLCIFT) to launch a comparative law Business Associations Law Introductory Textbook that will serve as a teaching tool and as a practical guide to the creation and management of business associations in selected Latin American jurisdictions—Argentina, Chile , Costa Rica, Colombia and Mexico.
The Center's President Dr. Boris Kozolchyk expressed his appreciation to the participants and also to the Louisiana State University (LSU) Law Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and especially to its Chancellor John J. Costonis for making available financial and staff support to this project. The business associations that would be covered in this initial textbook will be de facto and irregular companies, partnerships, limited liability companies, corporations and holding companies or corporate groups. It would also focus on those institutions that help strengthen the law of business associations such as the law and practice of business accounting and unfair competition. The plan is for this textbook to be written in Spanish and English by the three visitors as well as by distinguished Latin American and European scholars, with input by NLCIFT Research Director Dra. Mariana Silveira and research attorney Marek Dubovec. The textbook will follow the same problem-oriented and functional format as Boris Kozolchyk 's La Contratacion Comercial en el Derecho Comparado ( Dickinson, Carlos III and NLCIFT).
The editor of this textbook will be Prof. Francisco H. Reyes of the Javeriana University of Colombia and of the LSU Law Center in Baton Rouge . Individual chapters will be written by Prof. Elina Mereminskaya of the University of Chile 's Department of International Law and Research Director of the Centro Jurídico ILC ( Santiago , Chile ) , Lic. Armando Pamplona, former Dean of the law school of the Guadalajara campus of Mexico's Technological Institute of Monterrey (Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey – ITESM), Prof. Pilar Perales of the La Rioja University and the Carlos III University, both in Spain, and Prof. Raúl A. Etcheverry formerly of the University of Buenos Aires and presently at the Universidad de Ciencias Empresariales y Sociales. During their visit to NLCIFT in April, Professors Reyes, Mereminskaya and Lic. Pamplona , together with Dr. Kozolchyk, also discussed the project with Dean Toni Massaro of the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona .
